Our favourite Linkedin guru, Marcus Murphy recently spoke at our DMDU Connect virtual event and covered the importance of Linkedin. He highlights here the importance of Awareness.
AWARENESS – How they are seeing you.
Profile Picture – you need to get your picture right, choose a recent pic that looks like you. This is not tinder, wear a shirt, don’t be the cool dude its not the right use of this thing. No catfishing. Do not doctor photos. If you turn up looking different, it won’t work.
TIPS FOR PICKING THE RIGHT LINKEDIN PROFILE PIC
Profile Pic – if you meet me, you know it is me.
Header Pic – Use your brand or something related to your job – it can begin the story and attract
Headline – What you do. Catch their attention – make them look at your profile. It’s an opportunity to start a business, why not ask me a question. On Linkedin – photo and headline is enough opportunity to catch attention. Make it enough to attract.
Summary – Write an amazing Linkedin Profile Summary, it’s conversational content. You have 2,000 characters to use here. Jeff Weiner didn’t want Linkedin to only be a site for resumes or people looking to hire. Jeff turned Linkedin into a major source of business content.
It’s an SEO piece, measure of a great summary is if it starts a conversation.
- Start with a mission statement.
- Add personality to a specific avatar who will accidentally fall into this.
- State a problem with the solution. People love to buy but hate to be sold.
- Put in a call to action
A great summary will attract attention. Marcus points out that he receives many messages from people wishing to connect and stating they loved his summary. All these people are sales people. Ensure you are speaking to the right avatar and starting the right conversations.
